VINTAGE STYLING

A man in blue shirt and hat standing next to table.

I think one of the most exciting aspects of fashion at the moment, is the popularity of vintage clothing and accessories. Up until recently, I had always thought of vintage as “niche fashion.” It was something worn by rebellious teenagers, not  fashion forward, sophisticated women. I mistakenly associated vintage pieces with smelling a little musty, looking  a little tatty and also requiring entire weekends dedicated to trolling through flea markets to find them.

Well, times have changed. Vintage clothing is not only extremely fashionable, but incredibly collectible! A few years ago I stumbled upon a stunning boutique called Decades in LA. This is one of the best sources for vintage clothing in the country, and I immediately fell head over heels for everything in their gorgeously curated space. At that moment, an obsession was born. What I love about vintage pieces is the craftsmanship. Clothing and accessories were so beautifully made back in the day. That level of artistry is much harder to find in a modern world that has moved into mass merchandising. Accenting a wardrobe with vintage pieces is such a wonderful way to create a unique, signature look. You aren’t going to see anyone else in that piece, which is such a pleasure in a world dominated by cookie cutter fashion.

So, if you’re looking for inexpensive ways to individualize your look, and create a signature style that you can call your own, consider adding a few carefully curated vintage pieces into your wardrobe. This vintage leopard fur jacket was sourced from a wonderful local vintage shop in Downtown Las Vegas, called Amberjoy’s Vintage Closet. There are certain statement pieces, like the leopard coat that never go out of style, so purchasing a vintage one, is going to be less expensive and a guarantee that the styling is unique. Plus, recycling is wonderful for the planet!

LOVE this! And I adore vintage. I shop 90% vintage, thrift or consignment. I’m never disappointed with the treasures I find.

You are Mrs. Robinson : )

Oh what a jealous making beautiful jacket. I am in love. And there are so little good vintage shops in The Netherlands. I don’t know any. Just the smelly ones. Sign…. Oh wait… I did find two good coats: one elegant long yellow one (bright yellow) and a python print one (by Versace Jeans no less). But that was it.

Sounds like you are doing OK in the vintage department. You might try on line there are a few very good on line consignment shops but unfortunately the prices are not nearly as good as some of the bargains you can find in the little shops

The ones online are in the US and that is no good for me living in The Netherlands. We have one (..), I think it is called designer-vintage but still very expensive.
