SILK SARONG STYLING

A man in blue shirt and hat standing next to table.

For my 80th Birthday I traveled to Japan for the first time and fell madly in love with the country and the fashion. I sat in cafes for hours, mesmerized by the street culture and the innovative way people there interpret trends. There is a certain restrained sophistication in the styling that really appealed to me, although I couldn’t exactly put my finger on the secret ingredient that everyone seemed privy to.

I simply fell head over heels for the shapes and fabrics I saw being worn all around me. One look that kept attracting my attention was the silk sarong. It’s a beautiful, classic piece, but one that I have never owned, or ever really considered until my trip to Japan. In all honesty, I wasn’t sure how to style it, but fell in love with the look and decided to figure out the details of how to wear it later.

So, here are my thoughts on the silk sarong. It’s a fantastic wardrobe staple because it’s not only versatile, but it also flatters a variety of body types. I paired mine with a cashmere tank top, leather jacket, and shoe boots for the winter weather, but I also plan on wearing it in the summer with a silk t-shirt and sandals. I may not have cracked the secret of beautiful Japanese styling, but I think the silk sarong is a wonderful addition to any wardrobe. There’s something incredibly feminine about them…and who can resist slipping into something that makes you feel oh, so pretty?

That location “Rumors” is a charming boutique hotel in Las Vegas. Yes Patti, I agree that setting does lend itself to a bit of bandy or fine wine.

Ou did a wonderful job, but it is a difficult piece. I don’t think it is an easy piece for every body type at all. I think I would look like a stick in it.
Love the jacket and the belt too.

Hello Dorrie, nice to meet you. I’ve just come across your blog through Catherine of Not Dressed as Lamb. I had to laugh when I read that you’re a retired Playboy bunny! I just love a gusty gal and that must be you. Love your sarong styling. Fab backdrop too x

I have a Thai silk wrap skirt (sarong-like) that I’ve had fun creating outfits around. Enjoy!
