No matter how beautiful an outfit is, the wrong undergarment can accidentally ruin it, so it’s important to invest in a few key pieces that will flatter the figure and work seamlessly with your wardrobe. Let’s face it, we all have a few problem areas that we want to smooth over, and that’s where the body shaper comes in. Unlike the girdles of days gone by, modern body shapers can be pretty as well as functional, and there are a wide variety of colors and styles to choose from for every conceivable body type.
We all have our problem areas, so the specific garments you need will really depend on your body type and the style of clothing in your wardrobe. The first thing to ascertain is what your problem areas are. Some of us have issues with love handles, which can cause the dreaded muffin top, while others want to minimize the tummy area or prevent unsightly bra strap bulges.
The body shaper can work absolute miracles, but every brand is different, so in order to make sure you get it absolutely right, it’s a good idea to take a few outfits along with you shopping so you can try different styles on underneath your clothing to see which ones work best.
Body suits are wonderful for holding in the tummy and giving you a nice bust line, however for bigger busted women, it’s probably best to choose a support bra and control top high rise underpants instead. You can achieve the same look with separates, as you can with one-piece shapers, it’s just a matter of fit and personal preference.
Sales assistants can be incredibly helpful in determining what styles and brands will best suit your needs. I think it’s essential to shop around, so I suggest putting aside some time to visit a few different department stores. Different stores carry different brands, so shopping around will inform your decision making before you make the investment. These garments come in a variety of price points, so it’s worth taking your time and doing your homework. They are an investment and you want to make sure you get it right. Once you know what styles and brands fit your needs, and the size you take in each, you can buy them online.
My favorite brands are Spanx, Flexees, and Maidenform. Their size charts are very useful in helping to determine what size you need. If you get it wrong they are returnable, so no need to fret about making a mistake. I find the “light control” styles very comfortable for everyday wear, and a “firmer control” for special occasions and more form-fitted dresses.
Finally, don’t forget to look in a three-way mirror when trying body shapers on because the back is just as important as the front! Remember, we all want to look great coming and going!
