DOUBLE DENIM FROM H&M
Until recently, “double denim” dwelled firmly in the realm of the fashion faux pas. It was too reminiscent of Bon Jovi throughout the 80s or that time that Britney Spears and Justin Timberlake showed up to an awards ceremony in matching “head to toe” denim outfits. However, like everything else in fashion, if you wait long enough, the trend will come back. “Double Denim” is doing its second tour of duty on the catwalk, so I thought why not give it a go? If hipsters can make it work, so can I.
My first suggestion for doing “Double Denim” over 50, is go dark and don’t mix different shades of denim together. Leave that to the kids, who like to look a bit mismatched and unfinished. Next, is to keep it clean and monochromatic. We’re taking a fashion risk here, so keeping it simple is key. I chose to pair my stretch H&M jeans and denim jacket with navy blue shoe boots from Rag & Bone and statement jewelry. That’s it.
There’s a natural inclination to add in another trend, maybe some fringe, or a neon color accessory. Don’t. It’s overkill. The kids can get away with that, but I think women over 50 need to look at styling in a slightly more sophisticated way. So when experimenting with trends, please keep in mind that less is more.

You know, I think I might just attempt this trend. I’ve been a tad fearful of Denim on Denim, to be honest, that whole tacky thingy, but you’ve pulled it off ever so stylishly here that I’m tempted 🙂
